YESTERDAY'S PAPERA Guide to Collecting Ephemera in Australiaby VIVIENNE O'NEILLSee more books on Antiques and Collectables click here New hardcover book with dustjacket, full of colour photos. Yesterday's Paper features a charming collection of ephemera, reproduced in full colour and accompanied by a detailed and informative text together with succinct captions and price guides. With close to 1000 photographs spread over 19 chapters, it provides many fascinating and intriguing insights into Australian life in days gone by. The chapters, each self-contained, cover such diverse topics as trade cards, greeting cards, postcards and comics, as well as games, novelties, almanacs, calendars, diaries and more. Written and compiled by Vivienne O'Neill, Yesterday's Paper is, in its own right, a delightful and contemporary 'printed collectable'. This beautifully illustrated hardcover book with dustjacket covers a wide range of collectable items usually grouped under the umbrella terms 'ephemera' or 'printed collectables'. Many of these seemingly trivial pieces have survived purely by accident as they were not intended to last, but the survivors often have much to tell about the eras that produced them. Ephemera collectors in Australia do not generally restrict themselves to local material, and neither does this book, yet local items do tend to predominate. Although many have survived by chance, usually even the rarer items still only command moderate prices, frequently less than one hundred dollars. Some of the images will ring nostalgic bells while others may be unfamiliar. All should give the reader an enjoyable trip back in time. About the author: Vivienne O'Neill has written numerous articles on various aspects of collecting ephemera. Her collection began when she realised how useful items could be in the classroom. Since retiring from teaching, she and her husband Ian Bullock (also a keen collector) have opened a small antique shop in Saddleworth, south of the Clare Valley in South Australia.
