About the author Jeannette Rowe is the well-known, best-selling author and illustrator of Scallywag, that rascally cat, which was awarded an Highly Commended prize for the Australian Multicultural Literature Awards in 1991 as well as being listed for the CBC, YABBA and KOALA Awards. Her stunning picture book Hidden Treasures is a fictional adventure story based on some real, but rather wild characters. It was shortlisted for the NSW Premier’s History Prize in 1997. Born in Melbourne, Jeannette grew up in Bentleigh. Prior to becoming an illustrator and writer, she worked as an art teacher, curriculum consultant and talent agent. She has been working full-time as a writer and illustrator for the past thirteen years and has illustrated over twenty-five picture books. Her other picture books include Teacher-Eater by Paul Jennings, My Picture Dictionary, Spooky Stories series. Her popular pre-school WHOSE? flip-the-flap books with ABC are bright, bold and they won the Picture Book of the Year Award for 1999. Jeannette is also the author and illustrator of the My and YoYo series for preschoolers. Jeannette's work as a writer has grown from a strong educational base, having previously worked as a teacher and curriculum writer.
