1. Write down everything you spend for three weeks.
2. Limit going out: if you go out, you'll spend money.
3. Collect your coins, and every day put them in a washed out, empty soft drink or beer can. Don't touch it - when it's full, take it to the bank. You'll have around 0. This can be done every month (for double income earners) or once every 2-3 months.
4. Don't buy the kids lots of presents. If you want to mark special days, buy one present (not big). Want to spend? Spend time, not money, with your kids - it'll make them happier.
5. Have a weekly blackout. One night a week, to save money, don't use electricity. Forget Earth Hour, have Earth Night every week.
6. Avoid friends who make you spend money.
7. Don't buy brand-names, stay generic.
8. Ask for a discount whenever possible.

Paul Squires is a father of two, multi-millionaire and author, with business in real estate and married for 17 years to wife Krys. He is an energetic businessman who constantly meets and works among people in the 'consumer society'. He doesn't claim that his is an overnight rags-to-riches story. He has achieved his financial security using what he describes as 'tried, true and trusted' strategies. The family lives a simple life, having downsized their house from a larger wealthier home to a smaller home in a less affluent suburb. They prefer to stay home rather than going out and spending money, Paul owns a second-hand car, and the family all say they are happy.
