About the author Helen Nicoll (born Natland, Westmorland 1937, died 2012). She was educated at schools in Bristol; Dartington Hall, Devon; and Froebel Education Institute, London. Helen was a television producer with the BBC for many years. It was here, as producer of the children's educational series Watch, that she first met Jan Pienkowski. After working together for four years, they decided it was time to preserve their creativity in book form for future generations of children to enjoy. The result is the immensely popular Meg and Mog series. Nicoll was married for 42 years to the interior designer and antique dealer Robert Kime, who survives her with their son and daughter. About the illustrator Jan Michel Pienkowski (born 8 August 1936 in Warsaw, Poland) is a Polish-born British illustrator and author of children's books. He illustrated his first book at the age of eight, as a present for his father. Pienkowski is probably best known for his Meg and Mog books with writer Helen Nicoll and for his pop-up books, including Haunted House (winner of the 1980 Kate Greenaway Medal), Robot, Dinner Time, Good Night and 17 others.
