First published 2006, this edition published by Puffin Books in 2012. A half-starved fox was limping towards the outskirts of the sprawling grey city over which the storm spread its black and ragged wings. It stopped to sniff at the wind and read the warnings and signals. But its anguish was so great that if the world were to end it would not have minded. It limped on. The fate of the elf-troll Little Fur, becomes entangled with the mysterious fox, Sorrow, who longs only for death. Together they must travel to Underth, the Troll King's underground city, on a dangerous quest to uncover his evil plans. The wise Sett Owl has foreseen that the future of the earth spirit, and perhaps all living things, depends on the success of this quest. Led by a greedy, devious rat, how can they succeed? But how can they fail, when so much is at stake? In A Fox Called Sorrow, the adventures continue for Little Fur, the half elf, half troll girl who heals animals in a magical grove in the heart of a big city. When Little Fur discovers that the Troll King is plotting against the earth spirit that binds all living things, she sets off on a new adventure with a set of unlikely companions: the faithful cat Ginger, a reluctant rat, a pair of ferrets, and a mysterious fox called Sorrow who believes their quest is doomed. Can someone as small as Little Fur prove him wrong? Absolutely! Awards for the series
In the Little Fur books, children discover a complete world, richly imagined and filled with characters at once familiar and magical. They live in the overlooked pockets and wild places of our world, shunning those strange and alarming humans. Little Fur, an elf troll and a healer, becomes the unlikely guardian of her beloved wilderness, which lies hidden in the heart of an ancient city. Having faced greeps and brutish trolls, she must also penetrate the evil troll city to help protect the great earth spirit that nurtures all living things. Geared to young middle-grade readers who are, like our troll heroine, still innocent and natural champions of our earth, Little Fur is an eco-fantasy as wise and fey as it is adventurous and suspenseful. With black-and-white illustrations by the author throughout.
