The history in these recipes is still evident in the evocative names given them by the original contributors - Aberdeen Sausage, Hard Times Cake, Fruit Flummery, Washing Day Pudding and Country Women's Raffle Cake. There are also recipes for Salmon puffs, Fricassee of rabbit, Peach and raisin pie, Rice flummery - recipes that evoke the indomitable spirit of the country women of New South Wales, and provide daily inspiration for the modern cook.

The Country Women's Association of Australia has long been renowned for its work in support of rural families and communities, and for its members' cooking and catering. Their baked and bottled goods are must-see exhibits at local shows, and there are always long queues for the 'tea and scones' and other treats they serve up at many public functions. Their catering activities have made a huge contribution to the CWA's fundraising efforts.
