Tessa Kiros shares her passion for the food of Tuscany in this rich and very personal collection of Italian recipes. This personal cookbook reflects the Siena-based author's love of the cuisine of her adopted homeland. Its title refers to the seasonal nature of the recipes within, with the chapters divided into the 12 months of the year. It is about the food of Tuscany, seasonal cooking and fine ingredients.

The 'Basics' section provides preparation instructions and recipes that Tuscan home cooks learned from their parents and grandparents. Offers suggestions and substitutions for harder-to-find ingredients together with encouraging tips on improvising to suit any taste. Wine notes and a glossary round out the book.

Recipes include - Risotto alla Toscana (Tuscan risotto) - Spezzatino di cinghiale (wild boar stew) - Zuccotto (chocolate and vanilla sponge pudding) - Melanzane alla parmigiana (baked eggplant with tomato, mozzarella and Parmesan cheese) - Stracotto di manzo (beef braised in red wine).

About the author

Tessa Kiros was born in London to a Finnish mother and a Greek-Cypriot father. The family moved to South Africa when Tessa was foud and, at the age of 18, she set off to travel and learn all she could about the world's cultures and traditions, and new ways of living and eating. She has cooked at London's The Groucho Club and in Sydney, Athens and Mexico. On a trip to Italy to study the language and food she met her husband Giovanni, and now lives in Tuscany. Venezia is Tessa's fifth book, following the international success of her previous titles: Twelve, Falling Cloudberries, Apples for Jam and Piri Piri Starfish.
