New large softcover book, 152 pages. First edition, published 1997
Permaculture is both a philosophy and a practical approach to land use based on three tenets: care for people, care for the Earth, and redistributing everything surplus to one's needs. As such, this straightforward and simple approach to achieving self-sufficiency while nurturing and restoring the Earth can be practised by everyone. Permaculture is a way to repair and restore the Earth by analysis and design. It takes natural systems as a model, draws on many disciplines, and involves consciously designing landscapes which are productive, effieient and ecologically sustainable.
This book is an informative and practical guide to permaculture. By working through a series of practical excercises and following real-life examples, you will learn how to design a permaculture system on your land. Whether you own an inner-city balcony, a garden in the suburbs, or a farm in the country, you wil find this book a useful guide to developing a more sustainable lifestyle.
In this book you will also learn how to build a sheet-mulch vegetable garden, reduce your energy consumption, raise poultry and bees, create a food forest, design an aquaculture system, conserve water and generally improve the quality of your life.
Earth User's Guide to Permaculture is a manual of practical permaculture, a step-by-guide on how to assess and then design a permaculture garden of any size. Rob Allsop's warm and accessible illustrations support Rosemary's practical approach to permaculture
