New softcover book, published 2009, 432 pages, with a preview of Secret Army, Book 3 in the Henderson's Boys series. Suitable for readers aged 12 and older

Charles Henderson is the last British spy left in occupied France in 1940, living on a farm near Calais with four runaway kids cut adrift by the war. He and his young agents are playing a dangerous game: translating for the German high command and sending information back to Britain about the Nazi plans to invade England in September, on Eagle Day. The RAF must destroy the Nazi invasion fleet, but Northern France is heavily defended and the camouflaged barges are impossible to target at night. Together, Henderson and his team hatch a daring plan to guide the British bombers to their target. Their lives are on the line, but the stakes couldn't possibly be higher.

For official purposes, these children do not exist.

Despite her hopeless military situation, England shows no sign of willingness to come to terms. I have decided to prepare, and if necessary to carry out, a landing operation against her.
Adolf Hitler, July 16th 1940.

As the Battle of Britain rages, Charles Henderson and four young agents must do everything they can to thwart Hitler’s plans to cross the channel and invade Southern England.

Comment from Robert Muchamore - In the Summer of 1940 Britain was fighting alone against superior German forces. Hitler planned to invade England before winter weather made it impossible and had set the invasion date for the second week of September. These days living in Britain feels pretty secure, so it's hard to imagine what it must have been like with bombs dropping out of the sky and the imminent threat of a German invasion. But of course, Henderson's Boys weren't going to sit back and let that happen!

About the author

Robert Kilgore Muchamore (born in Islington, UK on 26 December 1972) is an English writer and author of the CHERUB and Henderson's Boys series. He spent thirteen years working as a private investigator. He was inspired to create the CHERUB book series because his nephew couldn't find any books that he liked reading. He tried to write books that he would have enjoyed reading when he was 12 or 13, a time when he remembers being too old for children's books but not old enough to read adult novels.

The CHERUB series follows the life of a character named James Adams (formerly James Choke), a member of CHERUB, a top-secret branch of the British Secret Service. The organisation recruits orphan children and trains them as intelligence officers. Once qualified, they are used to investigate targets ranging from international terrorists to gang leaders. As children, they are considered innocent by their targets.

So far Muchamore has written and published eleven CHERUB novels, with another one in production. Book 12, Shadow Wave, is the last book about James in the series and will be published in late 2010. The CHERUB series has been sold in more than 20 different countries and has won various awards. Book 1 in the series, The Recruit has won 8 literature awards.

Muchamore has also written the Henderson's Boys series - three novels about the beginning of CHERUB. The Henderson's Boys books are set during World War II and follow Charles Henderson, a British secret agent, as he creates the organisation later featured in the CHERUB series. The books feature four children: Marc Kilgour, Paul and Rosie Clarke and PT Bivott. There are 3 books in the series so far, The Escape, Eagle Day and Secret Army. A fourth book, Grey Wolves is due for publication in early 2011.
