In the first book of the Diary of a Wimpy Kid series, Greg discusses the fleeting nature of popularity, the logic of bullying, and the fickleness of the fairer sex. Author/illustrator Jeff Kinney recalls the growing pains of school life and introduces a new kind of hero who epitomizes the challenges of being a kid. As Greg says in his diary, "Just don't expect me to be all 'Dear Diary' this and 'Dear Diary' that." Luckily, what Greg Heffley says he won't do and what he actually does are two very different things.

About the author
Jeff Kinney has worked as a newspaper designer and computer programmer, and at other occupations that do not hinge on physical prowess. He is now a number 1 New York Times bestselling author. He never intended to run Diary of a Wimpy Kid on the Web, but the opportunity came up to post his story on Funbrain.com as he was developing it. In 2009, Jeff was named one of Time magazine's 100 Most Influential People in the World. He spent his childhood in the Washington, D.C., area and moved to New England in 1995. Jeff lives in southern Massachusetts with his wife and their two sons.
Diary of a Wimpy Kid was his first book, closely followed by Rodrick Rules and The Last Straw. The fourth book in the series, Dog Days, was published in late 2009.
