About the author

Elisa Strauss (born June 9, 1976) grew up in Roslyn, New York located on the North Shore of Long Island. She is the daughter of Karen and Elton Strauss. Her mother is a professional harpist and her father is an orthopedic surgeon. Elisa started to draw at a young age and learned to bake from her grandmother Pearl.

Before starting her bakery, Elisa worked as a textile designer at Polo Ralph Lauren and a handbag and hair accessory designer at Frederic Fekkai. While working in fashion Elisa attended pastry school at Institute of Culinary Education and graduated with a degree in baking and pastry arts. While working and going to school, Elisa was asked to make Ralph Lauren's 60th birthday cake in the shape of his Bugatti sports car. Soon after she was asked to design a shoe cake for the famous shoe designer Manolo Blahnik.

Elisa is now the proprietor and head designer of Confetti Cakes, a top New York City-based bakery specializing in custom designed cakes, which she founded. Confetti Cakes enjoys a large celebrity following, and Elisa is famous for her imaginative and elaborate cakes. Her work has been featured in dozens of magazines, as well as on Good Morning America, the Today show, Martha: The Martha Stewart Show, The View, and the Food Network. One of her cakes was also featured on HBO's Sex and the City as Charlotte and Harry's wedding cake.
