New softcover book. 204 pages, with a new introduction by Martin Gardner and the original illustrations by John Tenniel

Weary of her storybook, one 'without pictres or conversations', the young and imaginative Alice follows a hasty hare underground - to come face-to-face with the strangest adventures and most fantastic creatures in all of literature. The Ugly Duchess, the Mad Hatter, the weeping Mock Turtle, the diabolical Queen of Hearts, the Cheshire Cat - each more eccentric than the last - could only have come from that master of sublime nonsense, Lewis Carroll. In penning this brilliant buslesque of children's literature, this farcical satire of rigid Victorian society, this arresting parody of the fears, anxieties and complexities of growing up, Caroll was one of the few adult writers to enter successfully the children's world of make-believe, where the impossible becomes possible, the unreal, real, and where the heights of adventure are limited only by the depths of imagination.

Alice's Adventures in Wonderland, which was first published in 1865, is a novel written by English author Charles Lutwidge Dodgson under the pseudonym Lewis Carroll. It tells the story of a girl named Alice who falls down a rabbit-hole into a fantastic realm populated by peculiar and anthropomorphic creatures.

The tale is filled with allusions to Dodgson's friends (and enemies), and to the lessons that British schoolchildren were expected to memorize. The tale plays with logic in ways that have made the story of lasting popularity with adults as well as children. It is considered to be one of the most characteristic examples of the genre of literary nonsense, and its narrative course and structure has been enormously influential, mainly in the fantasy genre.

The entire first print run sold out quickly. Alice was a publishing sensation, beloved by children and adults alike. Among its first avid readers were young Oscar Wilde and Queen Victoria. The book has never been out of print. Alice's Adventures in Wonderland has been translated into 125 languages, including Esperanto and Faroese. There have now been over a hundred editions of the book, as well as countless adaptations in other media, especially theatre and film. A new movie version of Alice in Wonderland is currently in pre-production with Tim Burton as director. It is due for release in early 2010
